Welcome from the Chairman of the board Bergens Seilforening

On the behalf of Bergen`s Sailing Associations I am pleased to welcome you to the 2023 International Knarr Championship in Bergen.

Bergens Seilforening is a Norwegian sailing association, based in Kvitturspollen in Hjellestadoutside Bergen. The association was established in 1872 and is thus one of Norway's oldest sailing associations. The association has approx. 800 members. In the sailing facility, we have close to 300 sailboats, which both practice competitive sailing and the joy of sailing in our beautiful fjords.

Bergen's Sailing Association is also Bergen's oldest sports club. When the association was founded, it was based in the senter of Bergen, but was moved to Hjellestad in the 1960s.

We at Bergen Sailing Association are lucky enough to have one of Norway's largest collections of Knarrboats and dedicated sailors who take care of sailing traditions dating back to the Viking Age. All in all, Knarr-klubben Vest has around 35 boats in the fleet, 23 in good condition

IKC a unique championship, with tough competition among highly skilled Knarr sailors. The IKC is also the annual meeting place for the international Knarrfamily and has a great focus on the social interaction between the Knarr sailors.  

We are pleased with the fact that the Class has gathered a wide international participation in the IKC regattas, and we wish all the participants and their families a warm welcome to our sailing facility in Kviturspollen.

We look forward to close sailing, social gatherings and strengthening ties across national borders.
